A District Leader is a volunteer elected representative to the Queens Democratic Party. Each of the 18 State Assembly Districts in Queens is broken down into two parts (Part A and Part B), and each part is represented by two representatives (one male and one female), for a total of 72 district leaders.
In theory, district leaders are elected to:
Elect the county party Chair
Vote on party endorsements
Nominate judicial candidates
Fill vacant legislative seats
Appoint county committee members
In practice, district leaders have been acting as a rubber stamp for the interests of the democratic establishment instead of representing local interests. Melissa San Pedro and Christopher Hanusa are trying to fight back. We want to represent the interests of our neighbors and friends and bring more democracy to this democratic process. Do you live in our district? Vote for us in June 2026.
